Ange Postecoglou Remains Committed To Attacking Style Amidst Tottenham's Struggles

Despite facing criticism and heavy defeats, Ange Postecoglou insists on maintaining his attacking style at Tottenham. The team has struggled defensively this season, but he believes in the long-term benefits of his approach.

Tottenham's manager, Ange Postecoglou, remains committed to his attacking strategy despite another significant loss. Spurs were defeated 6-3 by Liverpool, with Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah each scoring twice. Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai also contributed to Liverpool's tally. For Spurs, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Dominic Solanke found the net. This eighth Premier League defeat leaves them 11th in the standings over Christmas.

Tottenham has conceded 31 goals at home in the league this year, marking their highest since 2007 when they allowed 34. The team is currently without key players due to injuries, including goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and defenders Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Ben Davies, and Destiny Udogie. These absences have coincided with Spurs conceding 15 goals in their last six matches across all competitions.

Postecoglou Stays True to Attacking Philosophy

Postecoglou faces criticism from fans and pundits for his unwavering style of play amid inconsistent results. He stated in a press conference, "I think I have been really patient the last 18 months sitting up here answering the same questions over and over again." He remains firm that his approach is designed for long-term success despite current challenges.

Under Postecoglou's management, Tottenham's Premier League games average 3.6 goals per match. This is the highest rate among managers who have overseen more than 50 games in the competition. Additionally, Spurs have conceded the first goal in 14 home games this year, equalling a record held by Crystal Palace in 2017 and Ipswich Town and Spurs themselves in 1994.

Postecoglou expressed frustration when asked about factors contributing to their defensive issues. "You know what? I'm just going to stop answering these questions," he told BBC Sport. He highlighted injuries as a significant factor but acknowledged that opinions on his methods vary widely among observers.

Despite these setbacks, Postecoglou is determined to build a team aligned with his vision while acknowledging that challenges are part of the process. He believes that sticking to his philosophy will eventually lead to success for Tottenham amidst their current struggles on the field.
