Ange Postecoglou Accepts Responsibility Following Tottenham's 2-1 Loss To Ipswich Town

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou took full responsibility for the team's 2-1 defeat to Ipswich Town. Despite a second-half goal from Rodrigo Bentancur, Spurs struggled to secure a win and remain in 10th place in the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou accepted full responsibility following their 2-1 loss to Ipswich Town, who had not won previously in the Premier League. Despite Rodrigo Bentancur scoring in the second half, goals from Sammie Szmodics and Liam Delap secured Ipswich's victory at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. This defeat marks Tottenham's third loss in five matches across all competitions, placing them 10th with 16 points from 11 games.

Postecoglou expressed his disappointment, stating, "It's hugely disappointing. We started slow and passively. We gave ourselves a mountain to climb. In the second half, we had chances but didn't do enough to win the game," he told BBC Sport. The team also faced a 3-2 defeat against Galatasaray in the Europa League on Thursday.

Postecoglou Accepts Blame After Tottenham Loss

The hosts managed an expected goals (xG) of 1.82 with five shots on target from 17 attempts but failed to secure any points. Postecoglou admitted, "It's just down to me, I'm not getting consistent performances from the players. It's something I need to address." He emphasised his accountability by saying, "I'm the person in charge, so that's usually the way it goes. I take responsibility."

When questioned about Ipswich's time-wasting tactics, Postecoglou remarked that it's something his players must adapt to as it seems prevalent in the Premier League. "Clubs are taking strategic time-outs. We just have to cop it. It's up to the officials, not me," he added.

Tottenham captain Son Heung-min echoed his manager's sentiments about their performance. "It's very disappointing. Before they scored, we had a couple of chances," said Son. He noted that conceding a sloppy goal was particularly frustrating and costly for Spurs.

This match marked the fifth consecutive home game where Tottenham conceded first in the Premier League. Despite making efforts for an equaliser after halftime with 39 touches in Ipswich's box and 63 final third entries, they struggled to challenge goalkeeper Arijanet Muric effectively.

Upcoming Challenges

"Sometimes you have to be calm and find a better solution if someone is in a better position," Son commented on their missed opportunities. He acknowledged that improvement is necessary in such situations as it was painful for them.

Looking ahead, Tottenham will face Manchester City when the Premier League resumes after the international break before travelling to Roma for their Europa League fixture.
