FIFA World Cup Draw Keeps Argentina And France Apart For Potential Semi-Final Rematch

The FIFA World Cup draw aims to keep top teams like Argentina and France apart until the semi-finals, raising the possibility of a rematch from the last final.

The upcoming World Cup draw will ensure that the top four ranked teams remain separate until at least the semi-finals, according to FIFA. This decision raises the possibility of a rematch between Argentina and France, who faced off in the 2022 final. Argentina, ranked second, is paired with top-ranked Spain on opposite sides of the draw, assuming they win their groups. France and England, ranked third and fourth respectively, are also provisionally separated.

If all four teams lead their initial pools and continue advancing, Argentina could meet either France or England in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Spain would face the remaining team. For Argentina and France to clash again, the draw on December 5 must set them on a path to meet in the last four against England. In their last encounter, Argentina triumphed over France in a penalty shootout after a thrilling 3-3 draw.

Argentina and France Could Face Off Again

Another potential final could see England facing Spain, echoing the Euro 2024 final where Spain emerged victorious. The procedures for the final draw have been disclosed by FIFA.

Confirmed Teams for Pot One

In addition to these top four teams, pot one includes Portugal, Brazil, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and hosts United States, Mexico, and Canada. Croatia, Colombia, Uruguay, and Senegal are among those in pot two. Norway poses a significant challenge from pot three.

Remaining Spots in Pot Four

Half of pot four remains undecided as it will feature four European play-off winners along with two inter-confederation victors. These spots will be filled as qualifying matches conclude.

The anticipation builds as fans await potential matchups that could reignite historic rivalries or create new ones on football's grandest stage.
