Premier League Gameweek 3: Haaland Hits 300, Isak Stars for Liverpool as Arsenal Maintain Perfect Start

New Delhi, September 3: Gameweek 3 of the 2026/27 Premier League season produced another weekend packed with milestones, comebacks and standout individual performances, with Erling Haaland reaching a remarkable career landmark, Alexander Isak making a blistering start to life at Liverpool and Arsenal continuing their flawless opening run.

Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal all emerged with victories, while Newcastle overturned a two-goal deficit against Bournemouth and Manchester United's defensive problems continued to raise concerns.

Haaland joins elite 300-goal club

Erling Haaland added another milestone to his rapidly growing career on Saturday, scoring Manchester City's winner against Coventry City to bring his tally to 300 top-flight club goals.

The Norwegian reached the landmark in just 368 appearances, underlining his extraordinary scoring rate. His effort also marked his 20th headed Premier League goal, the most recorded by any Manchester City player in the competition.

The victory also maintained City's perfect start to the campaign. They have now opened a Premier League season with three wins on eight occasions, a feat surpassed only by Chelsea.

Isak Wastes No Time At Liverpool!

Alexander Isak needed barely nine minutes to make his mark for Liverpool, scoring twice in the opening stages of their 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town.

The brace was the quickest by a Liverpool player in a Premier League match since 2011. Cody Gakpo provided both assists, becoming the first player since 1998 to set up two goals for the same teammate inside the opening nine minutes of a Premier League game.

Isak's record at Portman Road is also becoming increasingly impressive. He has now scored five Premier League goals at the ground since the beginning of 2024/25, the joint-most by any player at a single away venue during that period.

Arsenal Continue Their Winning Run

Arsenal maintained their 100 per cent start by coming from behind to defeat Chelsea 2-1, securing three victories from their opening three league matches.

Martin Ødegaard has also enjoyed a sharp beginning to the campaign. The Arsenal captain has scored three goals in four appearances across all competitions, already surpassing his tally of one goal in 36 appearances last season.

Arsenal's comeback carried added significance, ending a run of 14 Premier League matches in which they had failed to beat Chelsea after falling behind.

United's Defensive Issues Deepen

Manchester United's defensive frailties continued as they conceded at least two goals in each of their first three league matches. It is only the second time in the last 50 years that United have begun a league campaign with such a record.

Bryan Mbeumo struck just 46 seconds into the second half against Everton, but the hosts eventually rescued a point when Ainsley Maitland-Niles scored in the 95th minute.

Newcastle Come Out Of Abeyance

Newcastle produced one of the weekend's biggest fightbacks, recovering from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Bournemouth.

The result ended a run of 15 consecutive Premier League defeats for Newcastle when they had trailed by two or more goals, with their previous avoidance of defeat from such a position coming in March 2024.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, entered unwanted territory. They became the first team in Premier League history to score first in each of their opening three games of a season without winning any of them.

Groß reaches 250 appearances

Brighton's Pascal Groß joined an exclusive group by making his 250th Premier League appearance, becoming only the fourth German player to reach the landmark after Robert Huth, Dietmar Hamann and Bernd Leno.

Brighton also boast one of Europe's most prolific centre-backs in Luka Vuskovic, who has scored seven goals since the start of last season, the highest tally by a centre-back across Europe's big five leagues during that period.

With milestones falling across the division, Gameweek 3 offered another reminder that the 2026/27 Premier League season is already gathering pace.
