Bengaluru, March 10: Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has sensationally revealed he is not close to penning a new contract at the Emirates. The Gunners midfielder will become a free agent in the summer, as talks stall over a new deal to tie the England international down in North London. Arsene Wenger is desperate for the club to retain the services of the 26-year-old midfielder, and urged Arsenal to sort his situation out quickly.
It was reported earlier that Wilshere was ready to quit the side as Arsenal insisted he must take a huge 25 per cent decrease in wages on his current £120,000 deal. Only last week did Wenger claim that "the decision belongs to him", referring to Arsenal's contract offer.
And when asked by the Standard about the 68-year-old's comments, Wilshere said: "Yeah, but things have changed since then.
"And all I can tell you is that we are no closer to sorting anything out."
The news will anger Arsenal fans, who could lose the academy graduate, with Wilshere attracting interest from the Premier League and abroad.
The 26-year-old is a popular player, someone the fans love to see in an Arsenal shirt and they will not like to see him leave the club, that too for free.
Liverpool could pounce for the former Bournemouth loanee as Jurgen Klopp targets a replacement for their own contract rebel Emre Can.
Italian giants Juventus have also reportedly made an enquiry about signing the two-time FA Cup winner, however their primary target remains Emre Can of Liverpool.
Wilshere has managed to come back to his best in recent months after a few seasons troubled with injuries resulting in dip in form.
