Premier League: Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho slams Gary Neville over recent criticism

Premier League: Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho criticised Gary Neville for failing as a manager during the latter's time at Valencia.

Bengaluru, March 10: Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho has slammed United legend-turned-TV pundit Gary Neville for failing big time as a manager. The former Manchester United skipper Neville failed to impress during a brief spell as the Valencia head coach two years ago. But that has not stopped him and other TV pundits from constantly criticising Mourinho, and the Portuguese manager is understandably furious with it. Manchester United will take on in-form Liverpool in the North West Derby on Saturday and ahead of the game, Mourinho let his anger towards Neville and his fellow pundits known.

The Man United boss said: “Some of the guys with an opinion couldn’t resolve their own problems when they were managers.

“So they give opinions like they have solutions for everything but it’s not like that. They are in a position where they can give opinions about everything — sometimes I read and listen, sometimes I don’t.

“This week, I was more focused on enjoying Champions League and Europa League games and preparing for my match than to be focused on opinions.”

This is not the first time Mourinho has slammed a former Man Utd player.

Mourinho previously accused Paul Scholes of being overly-critical and even jealous of United's club record signing Paul Pogba.

“I think the only thing Paul Scholes does is criticise. I don’t think he comments, I think he criticises, which is a different thing,” he said. "Not every one of us has to be phenomenal like he was as a player. That does not mean we all have to be phenomenal."

Neville heavily criticised Mourinho’s side at half-time in Monday’s 3-2 win at Crystal Palace but the Red Devils eventually came back to win the game.

Mourinho also slammed former Liverpool star and pundit Graeme Souness after his strong criticism of Paul Pogba.

The 24-year-old could potentially miss the clash against the Reds after suffering an injury during training on the eve of the fixture.
