Presnel Kimpembe made a triumphant return to Paris Saint-Germain during the Coupe de France on Tuesday. After being sidelined for two years due to injury, he came off the bench as PSG secured a 2-0 victory over Le Mans, advancing to the quarter-finals. Goals from Desire Doue and Bradley Barcola sealed the win. Kimpembe's last appearance was on February 26, 2023, when he sustained a severe knee injury against Lille.
PSG manager Luis Enrique had confirmed Kimpembe's return before the match. The centre-back underwent two surgeries, with the latest in late 2023. Speaking to BEIN Sports post-match, Kimpembe expressed his emotions: "It wasn't an easy match. We know that the Coupe de France is important to us. It's a difficult competition; we've seen that with other Ligue 1 clubs who have gone out."

The defending champions are favourites to clinch their 16th Coupe de France title. This season has already seen surprises, like Lyon's exit to Bourgoin-Jallieu and Lille's loss to Dunkerque on penalties. Enrique was relieved to avoid such upsets. "It was a typical Coupe de France match. Dangerous, unpredictable," he remarked.
Kimpembe shared his joy about returning: "After almost two years out, it makes me happy, it's mad. I'm a warrior, a soldier." He felt proud wearing the PSG shirt again and appreciated playing alongside his teammates once more.
Enrique highlighted Kimpembe's return as significant news: "Presnel is the big news. I think he's happy." He noted that it was a special moment for Kimpembe and emphasised teamwork: "Together it's easier." The coach appreciated giving players rest while advancing in the tournament.
The Coupe de France remains unpredictable with its many challenges. Despite this, PSG managed their game well and advanced further in the competition. Kimpembe's comeback adds strength to their squad as they aim for another trophy.
