PSG Must Maintain Focus In Ligue 1 Title Race, Joao Neves Insists After Late Victory

Joao Neves highlights the importance of focus for Paris Saint-Germain in the Ligue 1 title race following their dramatic win over Lyon. With strong competition, the team cannot afford to relax.

Paris Saint-Germain's recent triumph over Lyon showcased their resilience, with Joao Neves praising the team's spirit. PSG secured a 3-2 win at Groupama Stadium, thanks to Neves' decisive header in the 95th minute. This marked the second consecutive week where PSG clinched victory with goals scored after the 90th minute, a feat they had only achieved twice in their previous 100 Ligue 1 matches.

The victory propelled Luis Enrique's squad back to the top of Ligue 1, reclaiming their position after Marseille and Lens briefly overtook them. Neves expressed confidence that the close competition at the top will keep his teammates vigilant. "The most important thing is that the team wins," he stated. "It's not my goal or another player's goal; it's always about the team."

PSG Must Stay Focused in Title Race

Neves highlighted PSG's strong start and relentless effort throughout the match as key factors in their success. "We started stronger and didn't stop until the end," he noted. This determination was crucial in securing their late victory against Lyon, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining their lead in Ligue 1.

On the other side, Lyon midfielder Corentin Tolisso expressed his frustration with referee Benoit Bastien. The referee reduced Lyon to ten men during stoppage time by sending off Nicolas Tagliafico for a second yellow card just before Neves scored. Tolisso remarked, "It's totally infuriating to concede a goal like that at the end."

Tolisso also criticised the general standard of refereeing, highlighting frequent mistakes and a lack of communication. He said, "We have to do better at refereeing in general because there are mistakes every weekend." He emphasised the need for more dialogue between officials and teams to ensure consistent application of rules.

Despite these challenges, PSG remains focused on maintaining their position at the top of Ligue 1. Their recent performances underscore their determination and ability to secure crucial victories even under pressure. As they continue their campaign, PSG aims to build on this momentum while staying alert to the fierce competition within the league.
