PSG Look To Maintain Lead Over Lens In Ligue 1 Title Race, Says Luis Enrique

Paris Saint-Germain and Lens are contending for top spot as the Ligue 1 title race heats up. Luis Enrique highlights Lens's impressive form, while PSG remain clear favourites per Opta simulations. The upcoming fixtures against Le Havre and Strasbourg will test both sides' resolve in a tightly contested title battle.

Paris Saint-Germain head to Stade Oceane knowing their Ligue 1 lead is fragile, with Lens close behind and Le Havre strong at home. PSG sit two points clear before this round, yet Luis Enrique accepts that both the title race and this away fixture may test his squad under pressure.

Despite that concern, the Opta supercomputer suggests a clear league outlook. PSG are projected to retain the Ligue 1 crown in 92.3% of its season simulations, while Lens are given a 7.3% chance. Those numbers underline PSG’s advantage, even as results in recent weeks show margins remain narrow.

PSG Lead Lens in Ligue 1 Race, Says Enrique

Lens have helped tighten the race by matching PSG’s rhythm across most of the campaign. They can even move above PSG before Luis Enrique’s team face Le Havre, as Lens visit Strasbourg first. That match could raise the pressure on PSG, depending on Pierre Sage’s response after Lens lost 3-2 to Monaco.

Luis Enrique stressed that the champions are not cruising through this defence of their title. He told reporters: "What's different about Ligue 1 this season is that Lens are having an incredible season. As for ourselves, we're at our level, with a points tally that's more or less equivalent to that of our previous two seasons. Lens are in great form, and it's motivating to be up against a team of that level in the league. It will be difficult to finish ahead of them as they're right there with us, but we'll see whether they can put pressure on us after their game away to Strasbourg today."

PSG come into this domestic fixture with renewed belief after progress in Europe. Luis Enrique’s side reached the Champions League last 16 by beating Monaco 5-4 on aggregate. PSG overturned a deficit to win the first leg 3-2, then drew 2-2 in the return game, with Wout Faes missing a late chance to force extra time.

The European draw then handed PSG another familiar opponent. "As always, I'm very happy with our draw. It will be fascinating to play against Chelsea, one of the best teams in England," Luis Enrique said. "We know them well, but there won't be any feeling of revenge because this is a different competition." That Club World Cup final defeat remains part of the backdrop, even if the coach plays it down.

PSG vs Le Havre Ligue 1 tactical outlook and home challenge

Le Havre present a separate type of test from Chelsea or Lens, yet Luis Enrique is cautious. "Le Havre's situation now is different to what it was in the past as they're in a more comfortable position in the table," the PSG boss added. "They're a different team now because they play with a lot of central players. Playing away at Le Havre has never been easy. I remember last year in particular. It'll be tight, but it's important for us to win. We're ready to perform."

Le Havre sit 13th after 23 Ligue 1 matches, nine points above Auxerre in the relegation play-off place. Didier Digard’s team lost 2-0 to Nantes in their last league game, ending momentum but not their solid season overall. Their current total of 26 points is their best after 23 top-flight fixtures in the 21st century and only one short of their 1995-96 benchmark.

PSG vs Le Havre Ligue 1 key players and scoring trends

Le Havre look to Issa Soumare again, as Soumare has scored each of their last three Ligue 1 goals. The last Le Havre player with a longer league scoring run was Adrian Kozniku, who netted in four straight games between October and November 1996. Soumare’s impact will be central against PSG’s defence.

For PSG, Ousmane Dembele is again shaping matches in the French top flight. Much like his 2025-26 season which ended with a Ballon d'Or, Ousmane Dembele has hit form at the turn of the new year, and he will be key for PSG here. Indeed, Dembele has been involved in eight goals for PSG in Ligue 1 in 2026 (sixgoals, twoassists), more than any other player in the competition so far this year.

PSG vs Le Havre Ligue 1 statistics, history and Opta prediction

Recent meetings strongly favour PSG. Le Havre have hosted PSG more than any other club this century in all competitions and have lost 100% of those games, four defeats from four. Across Ligue 1 alone, Le Havre have lost nine of their last 10 clashes with PSG, drawing the other, after earning four wins and nine draws in the first 23 league encounters.

Even with that record, Le Havre’s current home form offers some hope. They have already won five Ligue 1 matches at Stade Oceane this season, drawing five and losing two. That is two more home wins than in 2024-25, and their next success would be the club’s 200th in top-flight home fixtures, adding an extra milestone target against PSG.

PSG’s league strength since December 2025 remains clear in the data. They have won 89% of their Ligue 1 matches in that spell, with eight victories and one defeat. Among clubs in Europe’s top five leagues, only Inter have a better record in the same period, with 12 wins in 13 games, equivalent to 92%.

However, PSG’s away run has shown some vulnerability after a long stretch of dominance. Luis Enrique’s players have lost four of their last 14 Ligue 1 away fixtures, alongside eight wins and two draws. That comes after PSG set a record unbeaten away streak in major European leagues, going 39 matches without defeat from February 2023 to April 2025.

OPTA WIN PROBABILITY data for this match highlights those patterns in numerical form. Le Havre are given a 12.7% chance of victory, while the probability of a draw stands at 18.2%. PSG are rated at 69.1%, matching their strong historical results and recent league form, yet Luis Enrique’s caution reflects how tight Ligue 1 has become at the top.
