PSG vs Liverpool: Why is Cody Gakpo not playing Today despite travelling to Paris?

Liverpool are set to face PSG in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 match on Wednesday.

As the Reds face the Parisians in a crucial encounter, Arne Slot has left out Cody Gakpo from his first team and the Dutchman is not even on the bench.

Cody Gakpo was taken to Paris despite having an injury scare. The Dutch forward has been an important part of the Reds' zigsaw, and the fans expected him to play a part in Paris.

But Arne Slot has kept him out of action. Gakpo is not just in the lineup but has been completely left out of the squad. Although Slot mentioned they will have to assess Gakpo before the match, leaving him out completely has raised concern among the Merseyside club's faithful.

As per reports, Gakpo's fitness was under the test ahead of the match and the lanky forward failed to convince the medical staff.

The 25-year-old has been a prolific scorer for Liverpool this season, scoring 16 goals across all competitions. He also netted thrice for them in the group stages.

Amid Gakpo's absence, Diogo Jota is set to lead the line for Liverpool while Mohamed Salah is also starting for the visitors. Luis Diaz will be occupying in the left wing while Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch will be having midfield duties.
