The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 semifinal clash between PSG and Real Madrid, set to take place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, USA on Tuesday, July 8.
As the reigning UEFA Champions League winners, PSG face off against European football’s historic powerhouse, Real Madrid, for a chance to advance to the final against Chelsea.
Both teams have been scintillating, with PSG topping Group B and Real Madrid leading Group H. This match is a tactical showdown between managers Luis Enrique and Xabi Alonso, amplified by the emotional stakes of Kylian Mbappe facing his former club, PSG, after his 2024 move to Real Madrid.

PSG have been the tournament’s most prolific side, scoring 12 goals in five matches while conceding just one, despite a group-stage loss to Botafogo. Their attacking trio of Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Desire Doue has been relentless, with Dembele returning from a quadriceps injury to feature in the 2-0 quarterfinal win over Bayern Munich. Gianluigi Donnarumma, despite scrutiny for a collision with Bayern’s Jamal Musiala, has been a rock in goal, conceding just once in the tournament.
However, PSG’s defence is stretched, with Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez suspended after red cards against Bayern, and Nordi Mukiele sidelined by injury. Lucas Beraldo is expected to partner Marquinhos in central defence, with Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes at fullback.
Real Madrid, unbeaten in the tournament, secured a dramatic 3-2 quarterfinal win over Borussia Dortmund, thanks to Mbappe’s stoppage-time bicycle kick. Mbappe, recovering from illness, is expected to start, potentially pushing breakout star Gonzalo Garcia, who has four goals in the tournament, to the bench.
However, Los Blancos have their own challenges, with Dean Huijsen suspended and Ferland Mendy, David Alaba, Eduardo Camavinga and Endrick injured, though Eder Militao may return. Raul Asencio is likely to step in alongside Antonio Rüdiger and Aurélien Tchouameni in defence.
PSG Predicted XI (4-3-3): Gianluigi Donnarumma; Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, Lucas Beraldo, Nuno Mendes; Joao Neves, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz; Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia
Real Madrid Predicted XI (4-3-1-2): Thibaut Courtois; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Antonio Rudiger, Raul Asencio, Fran Garcia; Arda Guler, Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde; Jude Bellingham; Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior
PSG’s relentless form and attacking depth, led by Dembele and Kvaratskhelia, and their season-high expected goals of 145.6 in Europe’s top five leagues give them a slight edge, despite defensive absences. With Dembele’s pace and Kvaratskhelia’s dribbling likely to exploit Real Madrid’s depleted defence, particularly with Huijsen suspended and Asencio relatively inexperienced. PSG’s midfield trio of Joao Neves, Vitinha, and Fabian Ruiz offers control and creativity, capable of neutralising Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham and Federico Valverde.
Real Madrid’s strength lies in their adaptability and big-match experience. Alonso’s tactical flexibility, switching between formations, allows them to absorb pressure and strike on the break. Mbappe, motivated to prove a point against his former club, could be a game-changer. Madrid’s attacking duo of Mbappe and Vinícius Junior remains lethal, but their depleted backline could struggle against PSG’s dynamic forwards.
