PSV Extend Eredivisie Lead To 17 Points After 3-0 Triumph Over Feyenoord

PSV produced a first-half blitz to defeat Feyenoord 3-0 at Philips Stadion, widening the Eredivisie gap to 17 points. Obispo, Til, and Saibari found the net as PSV dominated with a strong xG advantage, leaving Feyenoord grappling with a rapid setback and mounting pressure in the title race.

PSV tightened control of the Eredivisie title race with a dominant 3-0 home win over Feyenoord, extending the lead at the top to 17 points with 13 matches still to play, as Robin van Persie’s team suffered a damaging setback against the league leaders.

The match became increasingly frustrating for Feyenoord late on, as Goncalo Borges received a straight red card for a late tackle on Couhaib Driouech with six minutes left, compounding the problems for the visitors in a contest where PSV created better chances and maintained control throughout.

PSV extend 17-point lead with 3-0 Feyenoord win

PSV’s advantage was built during a frantic opening spell at Philips Stadion, with three goals arriving inside 17 minutes to decide the match early, leaving Feyenoord with an insurmountable task and ensuring the home side could manage the game from a commanding position for the rest of the afternoon.

The breakthrough arrived after 10 minutes when Armando Obispo met a right-wing delivery from Joey Veerman and directed a low header beyond Timon Wellenreuther, who was then involved again three minutes later when an attempted punch fell short, allowing Guus Til to react fastest and finish from close range for a 12th league goal this season.

Ismael Saibari struck the third goal four minutes after Til’s finish, punishing sloppy defending as Paul Wanner unselfishly squared the ball for a simple tap-in into an empty net, and Feyenoord’s defence found no answer to PSV’s intensity during those early exchanges as the score reached 3-0 inside 17 minutes.

That goal also continued Saibari’s strong record against Feyenoord, after a hat-trick in October’s reverse fixture that finished 3-2 to PSV, and the Morocco midfielder has now scored four Eredivisie goals in one season for PSV versus Feyenoord, matching Brazilian forward Romario’s achievement from the 1990-91 campaign.

Team Goals Key scorers Expected goals (xG)
PSV 3 Obispo, Til, Saibari 1.95
Feyenoord 0 0.35

Despite Feyenoord making a double substitution at half-time in search of a response, PSV stayed on top, with Til and Driouech both missing further chances, while data underlined the home side’s superiority as Peter Bosz watched PSV record 1.95 expected goals compared with only 0.35 for the visitors.

The early 3-0 margin, which marked Feyenoord’s quickest time falling three goals behind in an Eredivisie match, left Van Persie’s side with little hope of recovery, and PSV’s controlled display strengthened the club’s position in the title race while underlining the gap between the top two after this direct meeting.
