For Punjab, Luka Majcen and Madih Talal started from the bench while Colombian striker Jordan Wilmar Gil, who is often used as a reserve striker in ISL, was the lone striker. Both forwards at either end struggled to see chances to score in what was a damp affair.

Juan Mera for Punjab FC and Azfal Noorani for Gokulam had a quiet day at work. Both had creative and setpiece duties trusted upon them but disappointed with their work in the final third. Gokulam, however, showed more intensity in the Punjab box in the first half but couldn't keep it up.

The match was soon bogged down in the middle with long spell of stray passing from both clubs. Coach Staikos Vergetis started Ricky and Maheson Singh in the midfield, allowing the youngsters to prove a point but the duo looked far from finished products with quality lacking in their work.

The second half saw a flurry of changes with notably GKFC goalkeeper Avilash Paul coming off the bench early in the second half to replace teammate Bisworjeet Singh, who was injured during a one-on-one situation with Jordan Wilmar Gill.

Punjab FC looked threatening in the second half with Madih and Majcen coming off the bench but their sincere effort didn't improve the lax of quality in the final third. Majcen, notably missed a glorious chance to take the lead off the virtual last kick-off the match after Talal put him through to the goal.
