'Pushy' Prince William demands bigger role in 2018 World Football Cup bid

London, October 18 (ANI): Prince William has reportedly lobbied FA bosses for a bigger role over England's bid to host the 2018 World Cup.

The royal, president of the FA, was said to be eyeing the three lions' share of the campaign from footie ace David Beckham in winning the bid.

But his attempts have allegedly left senior figures in the sport less than happy.

"You don't get many Old Eton-ians in the Premier League and you sometimes wonder if he really understands how important this is," the Daily Star quoted one top pro as saying.

"Many people would rather have real professionals handling the bid - people who know and love football," the pro added.

A Premier League source further said: "The plain fact is that being an ornament is exactly what he's supposed to be. He's a nice lad but, let's face it, he isn't there for his football expertise - because he doesn't have any."

Meanwhile, the Clarence House defended the prince, saying: "He is very supportive of the bid and will do his part in whatever way the FA deems appropriate. Prince William is heavily involved and will remain so until the winning bid is announced in December 2010."(ANI)
