Half Time Analysis
Lebanon did a fabulous job in the defense for the first 44 minutes of the game, not allowing Qatar many clear cut chances except for a header landing on the crossbar by Akram Afif.
However, with the half time approaching, Lebanon defense let their guard down for a second by not clearing a second ball quickly, allowing Qatar to create a goalscoring chance buried by their star man Akram Afif

The AFC Asian Cup 2024 is all set to get underway in Lusail with host nation Qatar facing Lebanon in their opening match in Group A on Friday (January 12). The match starts at 7 PM AST.
As the defending champions, World No. 58 Qatar comes into the competition having won their first championship in the 2019 competition in Abu Dhabi with an unexpected victory over four-time winners Japan. But the Maroons have changed significantly since then.
Former head coach Felix Sanchez was fired by the Qatar Football Association (QFA) after his team finished bottom of their group at the World Cup and failed to secure a single point from their three group stage matches.
Sanchez was replaced by Carlos Queiroz, who was supposed to guide the team to the 2026 World Cup. However, last month, the QFA severed their connection with the Portuguese manager, even though the team had won its first two World Cup qualifying matches.
The team's manager for the AFC Asian Cup 2024, Tintin Marquez had a mixed start to life in his new position. After defeating Jordan 2-1 last week, the team defeated Cambodia 3-0 on New Year's Eve. Though they enter this curtain-raiser having not lost a game to this opponent in their last six meetings (W5 D1 L0), including a 2-0 victory over them in the previous edition of this competition back in 2019, the new manager will nonetheless take some comfort from his team's historic performance in this contest.
Four years ago, in order to advance to the round of 16, Lebanon had to defeat North Korea by four goals in their penultimate group stage encounter. However, they were behind a goal within the first ten minutes of the game because of a mistake made by goalkeeper Mehdi Khalil.
But Lebanon did not surrender easily and fought back, scoring four goals prior to the end of regulation. Sadly, the 4-1 final score was insufficient, and they were eliminated from the competition by a very narrow margin. The Cedars are the bottom-seeded team in Group A of the competition, currently rated 107th in the world by FIFA.
