Rafael Leao has dismissed any rumours of discord with Milan's head coach, Paulo Fonseca. Despite being benched for three consecutive Serie A games after the international break, Leao returned to the starting line-up against Cagliari. He scored twice in the first half, bringing his season tally to three goals and reaching 50 overall in Serie A.
Leao has also contributed three assists in Italy's top league. He leads Milan in dribbles attempted (36) and completed (24). Reports suggested tension between him and Fonseca due to limited playing time, but Leao refuted these claims. "These things happen during the season," he stated at Portugal's training ground.

In the Champions League, Leao shone against Real Madrid, assisting in a 3-1 victory. However, criticism arose in Italy regarding his work ethic, with some pundits suggesting he only excels in major matches. Addressing these comments, Leao said, "Clearly, I do not agree with that."
"I have been having a great season at Milan but, like everyone else, there are ups and downs," Leao continued. He acknowledged that while he isn't perfect and can improve, criticism motivates him to perform better on the field.
Leao emphasised that there's no personal issue with Fonseca. "I don’t like being on the bench," he admitted but stressed respect for his coach's decisions. His focus remains on contributing positively when given playing time.
The winger expressed gratitude for those who support his growth. "I have people who help me to improve and those are the ones I have to listen to," he remarked. This support network helps him navigate both praise and criticism effectively.
The current season is still young for Leao at Milan. Despite challenges, he remains optimistic about improving his performance further as the campaign progresses.
