Rangers Clinch 1-0 Win At St Mirren As Rommens Fires Side Towards Hearts

Rangers moved within three points of Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts after Tuur Rommens netted the decisive goal in a 1-0 win at St Mirren. Rangers dominated proceedings with a strong xG advantage and created multiple chances, while St Mirren pressed for an equaliser but were denied by a solid performance from the visitors.

Rangers closed the gap in the Scottish Premiership title race with a 1-0 victory at St. Mirren, decided by Tuur Rommens. The result moved Danny Rohl's side to within three points of leaders Hearts after the previous day's defeat to Kilmarnock.

Rangers stayed third but tightened pressure on both clubs above. They sat one point behind Celtic in second place, while Hearts remained within reach at the top. The win also extended Rangers' strong league sequence under Rohl in recent months.

Rangers edge St Mirren as Rommens fires win

Rangers started with control and steady pressure, keeping St. Mirren pinned back for long spells. Nicolas Raskin delivered a precise cross on 31 minutes, allowing Rommens to escape marking and score a first goal for the club with a composed finish.

Before half-time, Rangers should have doubled the lead when Youssef Chermiti volleyed wide from close range. The visitors maintained intensity after the break, but St. Mirren goalkeeper Shamal George saved efforts from Ryan Naderi and captain James Tavernier, keeping the hosts in the contest despite limited attacking threat.

St. Mirren, playing without a permanent manager, rarely threatened, though Mark O'Hara mishit a good opening late on. Rangers' display pleased Rohl overall, but missed chances underlined a lack of ruthless finishing in key moments across the ninety minutes.

Data highlighted the visitors' dominance, with Rangers posting 2.36 expected goals compared to St. Mirren's 0.24. Rommens not only scored the winner but also produced a team-high five key passes. Rangers extended an unbeaten league run to 13 matches (W9 D4), their best sequence since a 17-game stretch from November 2022 to April 2023.
