Rangers On Brink Of Europa League Exit As Danny Rohl Critiques Second-Half Performance

Danny Rohl expressed his frustration with Rangers' performance in the second half of their Europa League match against Ferencvaros. Despite starting strong with Bojan Miovski's acrobatic volley, which was initially ruled offside but later validated by VAR, Rangers lost 2-1. Bence Otvos equalised in first-half stoppage time, and Barnabas Varga secured Ferencvaros' win with a header in the 72nd minute.

Rangers struggled to create significant chances after halftime, with only substitute Findlay Curtis managing an effort on goal. Rohl was particularly upset about the defensive lapses that led to the goals conceded. "Second half, we missed so many transition moments, and the second goal was too easy. These are the parts at the moment where we are not clinical enough," he stated. "Honestly, I'm very angry about our conceded goals. This is the disappointment for me. I am angry about two or three mistakes, this is hard to take."

The defeat marked Rangers' fourth consecutive away loss in major European competitions. They have experienced longer losing streaks only three times before: October 2023 (seven losses), September 1964, and October 1986 (both five losses). To keep their slim hopes alive for advancing in Europe, they must win against Ludogorets and Porto while relying on favourable outcomes from other matches.

Rohl avoided discussing their dwindling European chances but emphasised learning from these setbacks to improve their standing in the Scottish Premiership. "What happens in the next two games is not a topic for me today," Rohl remarked. "We will see what happens in this competition. From tomorrow, we have to focus on big games in the league."

Bojan Miovski's recent form has been a bright spot for Rangers, scoring three goals in his last two appearances across all competitions. Before this surge, he had only found the net twice in his previous 18 matches for the club. However, Miovski had to leave the field midway through the second half due to an injury concern.

Rohl commented on Miovski's condition: "Bojan got a kick, but it could be a bit more." The extent of Miovski's injury remains uncertain as Rangers prepare for their upcoming match against Hibernian at Ibrox on Monday.

As Rangers look ahead to domestic challenges, they aim to rectify their mistakes and regain form in both league and European competitions. The focus now shifts to maintaining consistency and improving performances as they navigate through crucial fixtures ahead.
