Marcus Rashford Enjoys Football Again After Scoring First Goals For Aston Villa

Marcus Rashford scored twice for Aston Villa in their FA Cup victory over Preston North End, marking his return to form after a goal drought. His performance boosts Villa's ambitions as they aim for European qualification.

Marcus Rashford is rediscovering his passion for football, having netted his first goals for Aston Villa. His two strikes in the second half helped Villa secure a 3-0 victory over Preston North End in the FA Cup quarter-finals. Jacob Ramsey also scored, ensuring Villa's place in the semi-finals. Rashford had previously gone nine matches without scoring since joining on loan from Manchester United.

Despite not scoring initially, Rashford contributed with four assists. Since his debut with Villa, only Mohamed Salah, Bruno Fernandes, and Marco Asensio have been involved in more goals across all competitions among Premier League players. Villa will face Crystal Palace in the semi-finals at the end of April. The winner will meet either Manchester City or Nottingham Forest in May's final.

Rashford Thrives After First Goals for Villa

Rashford expressed his delight to BBC Sport after the match, stating, "It's always nice for a forward to get a goal, so hopefully it continues." He feels fitter and believes he is playing better football since joining Villa. "I missed a lot of football before joining up with them," he added. Rashford emphasised taking each game as it comes and giving 100% effort on the pitch.

Aston Villa has an option to make Rashford's move permanent for £40 million at season's end. However, manager Unai Emery remained non-committal about Rashford's future at the club. Emery hinted that qualifying for European competitions might influence their ability to retain him. "We can't waste time speaking about that," Emery remarked when questioned about Rashford staying.

Emery acknowledged Rashford's progress but noted there is still work to be done. "There is still work to do, but today he did one step forward," Emery said regarding Rashford's adaptation to the team. He praised Rashford's comfort and confidence on the field and highlighted his versatility as both a winger and striker.

The manager explained that playing more games and being part of the national team would aid Rashford’s improvement. Emery stated that playing him as a striker was due to his quality and power, which align with their tactical plans. "The process we have with him is not changing," Emery concluded.

Aston Villa will resume Premier League action against Brighton on Wednesday before facing Nottingham Forest next Saturday. They are also preparing for their Champions League quarter-final tie against Paris Saint-Germain.
