LAFC Cruisin: Bouanga Hat-Trick Powers 6-1 Rout Of Real Espana In Champions Cup Opener

LAFC opened their Concacaf Champions Cup campaign with a 6-1 thrashing of Real Espana, led by Denis Bouanga’s hat-trick and strong support from Son Heung-min. The hosts dominated early, with two penalties and a fast start setting the tone, while Timoth Wayne Tillman capped the display before Real Espana pulled a late consolation header.

Los Angeles FC delivered a dominant 6-1 away win over Real Espana in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, powered by a Denis Bouanga hat-trick and a one-goal, three-assist performance from Son Heung-min, while Nashville SC also began their campaign strongly with a 2-0 victory against Atletico Ottawa at Hamilton Stadium.

Son and Bouanga, who combined for 49 goal contributions in the 2025 MLS season, immediately carried that form into continental action. Bouanga attempted six shots and registered 11 touches in the Real Espana penalty area, both team highs, while Son created five chances, more than any other player on the pitch at Estadio Francisco Morazan.

Bouanga hat-trick seals LAFC win

LAFC’s attacking efficiency against Real Espana was reflected by the underlying numbers, as Marc Dos Santos’ side generated an expected goals figure of 3.9 from 14 attempts, eight on target. Real Espana recorded an xG of 0.78 from 11 efforts against Hugo Lloris, underlining the visitors’ control in this CONCACAF Champions Cup tie.

LAFC moved ahead inside three minutes when David Martinez drew a foul from Juan Capeluto in the penalty area, allowing Bouanga to score from the spot past Luis Lopez. Martinez struck again eight minutes later, the Venezuelan curling in from Son’s disguised reverse pass, before Son converted a second penalty after Carlos Mejia’s challenge.

Bouanga added LAFC’s fourth in the 24th minute, finishing confidently to complete a brace, and the visitors’ first-half display was capped six minutes before the interval. Timothy Tillman completed a flowing team move, meeting Son’s driven cross with a deft backheel, as LAFC raced into a commanding 5-0 advantage in the CONCACAF Champions Cup clash.

Real Espana gained a brief lift when Jack Jean-Baptiste headed in from Jhow Benavidez’s free-kick. However, Bouanga completed the hat-trick before full-time, with Sergi Palencia’s far-post delivery cleverly dummied by Nathan Ordaz, leaving Bouanga to finish and give LAFC a strong cushion ahead of the second leg at BMO Stadium on February 24.

LAFC in CONCACAF Champions Cup: Nashville SC’s supporting result

Nashville SC matched LAFC’s positive start to the CONCACAF Champions Cup, defeating Atletico Ottawa 2-0 at Hamilton Stadium. After controlling much of the first half without scoring, Nashville finally broke through in the 66th minute when Woobens Pacius lifted a bouncing shot over Garissone Innocent to open the scoring.

Atletico Ottawa pushed late on, but Nashville sealed victory in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time. Sam Surridge struck from close range after Cristian Espinoza squared the ball, confirming a two-goal margin that mirrored LAFC’s authority on the night and rounded off a strong opening set of CONCACAF Champions Cup fixtures.
