Gonzalo Garcia's impressive performance continued as his header secured Real Madrid's 1-0 victory over Juventus in the Club World Cup last 16 in Miami. The 21-year-old, who also scored against Al-Hilal and Red Bull Salzburg in the group stage, found the net by heading Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross past Juventus' defence in the 54th minute. This marked Alexander-Arnold's first assist for Madrid.
Juventus had their best chance early on when Kenan Yildiz set up Randal Kolo Muani, whose attempt to chip Thibaut Courtois ended on top of the net. Yildiz also saw a spectacular effort deflect narrowly wide, while Federico Valverde's long-range shot was tipped around the post by Michele Di Gregorio just before half-time.

In the second half, Alexander-Arnold initially missed a shot over the crossbar but soon delivered a perfect cross for Garcia to score. Francisco Conceicao's curling shot was saved by Courtois as Juventus sought an equaliser, yet Madrid appeared more likely to extend their lead.
Valverde attempted an overhead kick that Di Gregorio saved, and Arda Guler's powerful drive was blocked by the goalkeeper’s legs. Real Madrid settled for a narrow win and will face either Borussia Dortmund or Monterrey next, with Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich potentially awaiting them in the semi-finals.
Garcia has maintained his record of contributing to a goal in every match at the 2025 Club World Cup. He has scored three goals from nine attempts, with an expected goals (xG) value of 2.0. Only Angel Di Maria of Benfica surpasses him with four goals in the tournament.
The header against Juventus also marked Alexander-Arnold’s first assist for Real Madrid. Known for his record of 64 assists as a defender during his time at Liverpool, he continues to demonstrate his playmaking abilities at his new club.
