The defending champions, Real Madrid, will face Borussia Dortmund at home, Liverpool away, AC Milan at home, Atalanta away, Salzburg at home, Lille away, Stuttgart at home, and Brest away.
Madrid's league phase draw looks like a tough one with big European names being their opponents. Interestingly, seven of their eight opponents are from Europe's "Big Five" leagues. Nevertheless, Madrid is known for rising up to any challenge against big names in Europe.

That said, Carlo Ancelotti, the competition's most successful coach with five titles, guided Madrid to a 2023/2024 treble, complemented by victories in La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup.
The 2024-25 Champions League season introduces a groundbreaking new format, replacing the traditional group stage with an expanded league phase. This phase now features 36 teams, up from the previous 32.
In this revamped structure, each team will face eight different opponents, playing four matches at home and four away, ensuring a wider variety of matchups and more intense competition.
The top eight teams from the league phase will automatically advance to the round of 16. Teams finishing between ninth and 24th place will enter a knockout playoff to compete for the remaining eight spots in the round of 16, while the bottom 12 teams will be eliminated.
Fixture dates and times will be announced on Saturday, with the final scheduled to take place at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Saturday, May 31. Here is a look at Real Madrid 2024-25 UCL schedule and opponents list for the league phase:
