Following a resounding 4-1 victory over Espanyol, Real Madrid have etched their names with a more than four-decade-long record.
It was a scintillating performance from the Spanish giants who came back from a goal down to win over Espanyol.
After an own goal from Thibaut Courtois, Dani Carvajal equalized for Real Madrid. Rodrygo then gave them the lead, whereas Vinicius Jr. further increased the scoreline. A late penalty from Kylian Mbappe completed the rout as they marched on with another impressive victory.
The win has extended their unbeaten streak to a remarkable 38 matches, equalling their longest run without defeat which was set back in the 1979-1980 season.
The last time Real Madrid experienced defeat in La Liga dates back to September in 2023 during the Madrid derby, where they were bested by Atletico Madrid with a score of 3-1. This loss marked the beginning of an incredible journey, one that has seen them not only recover but thrive to the point of nearing a historic milestone in La Liga.
Currently, Real Madrid have achieved what is termed the perfect cycle in La Liga - completing an entire season without suffering a single defeat. Their recent Champions League win over Stuttgart also meant Los Blancos are now unbeaten in 14 matches in the continental tournament, a match less than their all-time 15-match record. At that time, Real Madrid's unbeaten run halted in a semifinal 2nd leg defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid in 2016-17 season, eventually in which they won the continental title by beating Juventus.
With Real Madrid's unbeaten streak in La Liga now extended to 38 games, the determination to continue this run is palpable within the team. They are currently a point behind leaders Barcelona and have played a match more, but Carlo Ancelotti's men will be desperate to catch up as the season progresses.
