Real Madrid sign Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool, confirm Club World Cup availability

Real Madrid have signed Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool, reinforcing their defence with one of the most dynamic right-backs of the modern era.

The Spanish giants announced the signing on Friday as the recent Premier League winner has now become their second acquisition of the season, after the signing of Dejan Huijsen.

The 26-year-old England international has agreed to a six-year contract that ties him to the Spanish giants until June 2031.

The 26-year-old defender arrives at the Santiago Bernabéu after a successful spell at Liverpool, where he won a total of nine major trophies. His honours with the Merseyside club include one UEFA Champions League title, one FIFA Club World Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, two Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two EFL Cups, and one FA Community Shield.

Alexander-Arnold, a product of Liverpool's academy, has spent his entire professional career with the club prior to this move. Since making his senior England debut in 2018, he has represented the national team at two FIFA World Cups (2018 and 2022) and the UEFA Euro 2024.

Real Madrid accelerated the transfer by paying a £10 million compensation package. This covers both a nominal transfer fee and the player's June wages - allowing him to join early and participate in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the United States. The club also announced that the player will be a part of Los Blancos for the Club World Cup, starting from June 14.

"Alexander-Arnold will play with Real Madrid in the Club World Cup, which will be held in the United States starting June 14," the statement from Real Madrid said.
