Real Madrid to complete their first superstar signing of 2025 in January similar to Kylian Mbappe

Real Madrid are reportedly on the verge of completing the signing of Bayern Munich's star left-back, Alphonso Davies, as a free agent.

According to multiple reports, the Spanish giants are close to signing a pre-contract agreement with the Canadian international, with the deal likely be finalized as early as January.

Real Madrid transfer news

Davies has been identified by Real Madrid as the ideal candidate to strengthen their left-back position for the long term. His speed, versatility, and attacking prowess have made him one of the most sought-after defenders in European football.

With his contract at Bayern set to expire next summer, Davies is expected to join the La Liga giants on a free transfer-a strategic move that mirrors the club's recent pursuit of Kylian Mbappe.

Real Madrid had initially hoped to bring in Davies during the summer transfer window but were only willing to offer €25 million, considering that he was entering the final year of his contract and had refused to sign an extension with Bayern Munich.

However, the German club was reluctant to let him go for that amount, choosing instead to hold onto the player for another season despite the risk of losing him for free next year.

Real Madrid meanwhile have reportedly been working behind the scenes to convince Davies to hold out on renewing his contract with Bayern, allowing them to sign him without a transfer fee. The Spanish giants are confident that their plan is on course and expect to finalize the deal soon.

Should Davies complete the move, he will provide much-needed competition for current left-back Ferland Mendy, who has impressed since joining from Lyon in 2019.

The arrival of the Canadian international would further solidify Real Madrid's defense and offer additional options for manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Initially, Bayern Munich were hopeful of persuading Davies to extend his contract, or at least secure a significant transfer fee for him before his deal ran out.

However, the Bundesliga champions have now accepted that the 23-year-old will leave on a free transfer next summer, much like David Alaba, who made the switch to Real Madrid under similar circumstances in 2021.

Davies joined Bayern Munich from Vancouver Whitecaps in 2018 and has since enjoyed an illustrious career in Germany, winning five Bundesliga titles and the UEFA Champions League in 2020.

Despite an injury setback that saw him sidelined for nearly a year, the left-back made his return this season, appearing against Holstein Kiel in a recent match.
