Real Madrid to target Cristiano Ronaldo's star team-mate after Leny Yoro's move to Manchester United

Real Madrid are actively exploring the transfer market to sign a new defender this summer, following the snub from Lille’s Leny Yoro. Reports suggest that Al Nassr and Spain star Aymeric Laporte has emerged as a preferred option for Los Blancos.

The departures of Nacho and Rafa Marin have left significant gaps in Real Madrid’s defense. Initially, the club targeted Lille’s Leny Yoro to bolster their backline.

Laporte

The young and physically strong Lille defender was seen as an ideal candidate to grow alongside Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger, and David Alaba. However, Real Madrid was unwilling to pay a hefty transfer fee, hoping to secure Yoro on a free transfer next year. Manchester United's intervention has now forced Los Blancos to look elsewhere.

Aymeric Laporte: The Cost-Effective Solution

Real Madrid have identified Aymeric Laporte as a viable Plan B. Laporte, who currently plays for Al Nassr, was a key figure in Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph, forming a formidable partnership with Robin Le Normand and Nacho emerging as the tournament’s best defender.

Laporte, 30, previously enjoyed a successful stint at Manchester City, where he played a crucial role in Pep Guardiola’s dominant Premier League sides over five years. He moved to Al Nassr last summer, lured by a lucrative deal in Saudi Arabia, but is reportedly open to a return to Europe.

Laporte’s experience in Spain, where he played for Athletic Bilbao, makes him an attractive prospect for Real Madrid.

The club believe that signing Laporte would be a more cost-effective and immediate solution compared to waiting for Yoro. Additionally, Laporte’s teammate at Al Nassr, Cristiano Ronaldo, a Real Madrid legend, could potentially influence the negotiations.
