Bengaluru, November 23: Zlatan Ibrahimovic has set a Champions League record to his name last night after he appeared against Basel in their 1-0 away defeat.

The Red Devils were beaten 1-0 by the Swiss side after a late strike from Michael Lang that gave the home side a crucial win. Because of the defeat, United, who only needed one point to top the group now have to wait for their last game against CSKA Moscow at Old Trafford in December to qualify.

United got many opportunities to seal a win in the first half itself in Switzerland but they paid the price for missing chances as Jose Mourinho side's suffered their first defeat of the UCL campaign this season.

However, for their swede hero Zlatan Ibrahimovic the night might be precious.

Ibrahimovic, who just returned last Saturday in the 4-1 win at home to Newcastle after a long seven months injury lay-off following a knee injury, came onto the field as a sub with 16 minutes remaining replacing Martial. The 6'4" striker also got a later chance to salvage a draw but could not direct a header.

But the 36-year-old made a record as he became the first-ever player in the history of Champions league to appear in the tournament with seven different teams.

Earlier, Barcelona star Javier Saviola held the record, having played for six teams.

Before United, Zlatan played for Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus and Ajax, but, is yet to lift Europe's greatest prize.

Also, no-one has played for that many, with Zlatan now appearing 120 times in the competition across spells at Ajax (19), Juventus (19), Inter (22), Barcelona (10), Milan (16), Paris Saint-Germain (33) and now one at United.

United who remain top of Group A, with 12 points, while Basel and CSKA Moscow are locked level with nine points each, will have to wait for another fortnight before knowing whether or not they will take their place in the draw for the knockout stages.
