Red Star Belgrade Secures First Champions League Victory With 5-1 Win Over Stuttgart

Red Star Belgrade secured their first victory in this season's Champions League by defeating Stuttgart 5-1 at the Stadion Rajko Mitic. This win marked only their third ever in the competition. Despite trailing initially, they climbed to 31st place after five matches. Ermedin Demirovic scored for Stuttgart early on, but Red Star quickly equalised and dominated thereafter.

The Serbian team demonstrated resilience, overturning a deficit to achieve a significant win. This triumph was their largest comeback victory in both the Champions League and European Cup history. It also matched Stuttgart's heaviest defeat in the competition. Red Star hadn't scored five goals in a single match since a 5-0 victory over Dundalk in September 1988.

Silas Katompa Mvumpa, on loan from Stuttgart, levelled the score just six minutes after Demirovic's opener. He made a solo run from midfield before curling the ball past Alexander Nubel. Rade Krunic then put Red Star ahead with his first club goal in over two years, having last scored for AC Milan during the 2022-23 season.

After halftime, Red Star continued to press forward and were rewarded when Mirko Ivanic headed in their third goal at the far post in the 65th minute. Krunic assisted Nemanja Radonjic four minutes later, and Radonjic added another goal just before full time with a precise left-footed shot.

This victory was particularly notable as it was Red Star's biggest win since defeating Portadown 4-0 back in October 1991. The team had struggled to secure wins in their previous four matches of this campaign but showed no signs of lacking confidence against their Bundesliga opponents.
