Liverpool Prepares For Crucial Premier League Clash Against Manchester City At Etihad Stadium

As Liverpool takes on Manchester City, both teams are under pressure. Liverpool aims to extend their lead in the Premier League while City seeks redemption after recent struggles.

Liverpool's recent 2-2 draw with Aston Villa extended their lead over Arsenal to eight points. However, Arsenal could narrow this gap when they face West Ham on Saturday. Liverpool will then confront Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, a challenging fixture for the Reds. Despite City's Champions League exit against Real Madrid, Pep Guardiola's team remains determined to secure a top-four finish.

Manchester City has struggled without Rodri, who suffered a knee injury in September. This absence has affected their midfield control, especially against top teams. In seven league games against last season's top-eight teams without Rodri, City won only once. Recently, Nico Gonzalez debuted as a potential solution, impressing with his passing and tackling skills.

Liverpool Faces Manchester City in Key Match

The Opta supercomputer predicts a close contest between Liverpool and Manchester City. It gives Liverpool a 40.5% chance of winning and City 35%, while a draw stands at 24.5%. Liverpool aims to complete a Premier League double over City for the third time, having done so in 2005-06 and 2015-16.

Liverpool's away form has been strong this season, remaining unbeaten in their first 14 matches—a feat achieved by only five other English top-flight teams in history. However, they have won just once in their last 15 league visits to the Etihad Stadium.

Omar Marmoush is one to watch for Manchester City after scoring a hat-trick against Newcastle United last week. His performance was the second-fastest treble by a City player in Premier League history. Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah has been involved in more goals against Guardiola's City than any other player since 2016-17.

Liverpool's recent performances have raised concerns about their attacking efficiency. They failed to register a single shot in the second half of their win over Wolves and were outshot by Everton recently. The absence of Cody Gakpo has impacted their attack; he ranks second only to Salah for goals and shots this season.

Despite City's inconsistent form earlier this season, they have improved since Christmas with five wins from eight games. Their recent victory over Newcastle showcased Nico Gonzalez's potential as he completed numerous passes and tackles, contributing significantly to City's control during the match.

Liverpool must improve both offensively and defensively at the Etihad Stadium if they hope to maintain their title challenge. With Arsenal closing in on them, every point is crucial as they aim to extend their unbeaten run away from home.
