Reeza Hendricks Becomes Most Expensive Player in SA20 2025 Auction, Joins MI Cape Town for R4.30 Million

The third edition of the SA20 auction, held in Cape Town on Tuesday, was full of excitement as six franchises vied to complete their 19-player squads for the upcoming 2025 season. In a fierce bidding war, Proteas batsman Reeza Hendricks emerged as the most expensive player.

He signed with MI Cape Town for a staggering R4.30 million. The auction, which featured star players like Josh Little and Shamar Joseph, saw MI Cape Town engage in a heated contest with the Pretoria Capitals for Hendricks. Ultimately, the Cape Town side secured the prized acquisition.

His addition is expected to add significant firepower to their top order. Known for his ability to anchor innings while accelerating when needed, Hendricks will join an already star-studded lineup, featuring players like Ben Stokes and Rashid Khan.

Hendricks, who previously played for Joburg Super Kings in the SA20, will be a key addition to MI Cape Town's pursuit of the 2025 title. His versatility at the crease and experience at the international level make him a valuable asset.

Especially with the tournament set to kick off on January 9, 2025, and the final scheduled for February 8. Apart from Hendricks, MI Cape Town also made a couple of bargain acquisitions during Tuesday's auction.

The franchise picked up Proteas spinner Dane Piedt and former Proteas batsman Colin Ingram for R175,000 each, bolstering their squad with further depth and experience.

The team's roster, which already includes big names like Kagiso Rabada, Trent Boult, and Dewald Brevis, is shaping up to be one of the most formidable in the tournament. With the auction over, all eyes are now on how MI Cape Town will utilize their star-studded squad.

They will be aiming to strike a balance between international firepower and local talent.
