Rennes Triumphs Over Lyon 3-0: Gouiri Leads With Stellar Performance

In a confident start to their Ligue 1 campaign, Rennes defeated Lyon 3-0. Key moments included a deflected goal by Bourigeaud, Gouiri's skillful play leading to the second goal, and Meister sealing the win in injury time.

Rennes began their Ligue 1 season with a strong 3-0 win over Lyon at Roazhon Park. An early goal came from a Benjamin Bourigeaud free-kick, which deflected off Nemanja Matic. Just two minutes later, Amine Gouiri took advantage of a poor pass from Lyon's new player, Moussa Niakhate, rounded Lucas Perri, and scored into an open net.

Amine Gouiri was a constant threat throughout the match. He attempted seven shots, his highest in a Ligue 1 game since February against Clermont. Gouiri also had the most touches in the opposition box, totalling seven. His performance was crucial for Rennes' attacking play.

Rennes Beats Lyon 3-0 in Ligue 1

Lyon controlled possession in the second half and seemed to have a chance to get back into the game when Lorenz Assignon fouled Malick Fofana in the penalty area. However, Steve Mandanda made an excellent save from Georges Mikautadze's penalty kick.

Rennes have been prolific at home, scoring 21 goals in their last 22 Ligue 1 matches at Roazhon Park. The only exception was a 1-0 loss to Lyon last November. This victory continues their strong home form.

Gouiri almost scored again when his curling shot hit the crossbar. In injury time, he assisted Henrik Meister to make it 3-0, adding further shine to Rennes' performance.

This match highlighted Gouiri's importance to Rennes' attack. His ability to create and finish chances makes him a key player for the team.

Rennes' early dominance set the tone for the match. Their quick goals put Lyon on the back foot and allowed them to control the game effectively.

The team's defensive efforts were also notable. Despite Lyon's possession, Rennes managed to keep a clean sheet thanks to Mandanda's crucial penalty save.

The victory gives Rennes a positive start to their Ligue 1 campaign and boosts their confidence moving forward.
