RFEF Expresses Surprise And Discomfort As Lamine Yamal Withdraws From Spain Squad Due To Injury

Lamine Yamal has withdrawn from the Spain squad due to an injury procedure that the RFEF was unaware of. The federation expressed surprise and prioritised the player's health.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has voiced its unease after Lamine Yamal had to leave the Spain squad. Yamal, a young talent from Barcelona, has been grappling with persistent injuries this season. Despite these issues, he has played in six matches for Barcelona since the last international break, scoring four goals.

Yamal's current injury involves his groin and pubic area. He missed Spain's victories over Georgia and Bulgaria in October due to this issue. Spain's coach, Luis de la Fuente, will not have Yamal available for upcoming matches against Georgia and Turkiye. The RFEF revealed that Yamal underwent a medical procedure without their medical team's knowledge.

Yamal Withdraws from Spain Squad Amid Injury Concerns

The RFEF expressed surprise upon learning about Yamal's radiofrequency treatment on November 10. The procedure was conducted without informing Spain's medical team beforehand. They only received a report at 22:40 that night recommending rest for seven to ten days.

Decision to Release Yamal

Due to these circumstances, the RFEF decided to release Yamal from the national team call-up. Their priority remains his health and well-being. They are hopeful for his swift recovery and return to full fitness.

Earlier in the season, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick criticised Spain's staff for overworking Yamal during the September international break. This led to an injury for the young player. Meanwhile, Spain is on the verge of setting a new record if they avoid defeat against Georgia on Saturday.

Spain currently leads World Cup qualifying Group E with an unbeaten record after four games. A victory should secure their spot in next year's tournament as Euro 2024 champions.
