London, Feb 16: Rio Ferdinand has given a damning verdict on Tottenham's new defensive addition Serge Aurier by insisting that he does not rate the Ivorian full-back as a top-class defender.

Spurs made a Superb comeback against Juventus in their round of 16 away tie after they salvaged a 2-2 draw despite conceding two early goals.

Higuain fired the first blood just after two minutes into the game and later in the ninth converted from the spot to make it 2-0.

Spurs pulled another back in the 35th minute of the game, however, their comeback could have been in jeopardy following a clumsy tackle from Aurier in the dying minutes of the first half.

The Ivory Coast full-back indulged into an unnecessary tackle and seemed victim to Douglas Costa's pace to tackle him down in the box conceding a penalty.

But to Spurs good fortune, Higuain missed the penalty and later Eriksen made the comeback complete with a freekick goal.

Now following the game, former Manchester United renowned centre-back, now a pundit Ferdinand has ripped into Serge Aurier labelled his playing style 'rash' and claimed that he has let his team down far too often this season by giving away needless fouls.

“As a defender, I have never really rated Aurier,” Ferdinand said on BT Sport. “He’s rash and he’s let his team down far too often.”

His fellow BT Sport pundit Steven Gerrard also agreed with Ferdinand about Aurier's faults and the former Liverpool captain also claimed the right-back is really lucky that the penalty did not convert.

The Tottenham right-back will now miss the second-leg of the Champions League tie with Juventus next month after receiving a third yellow card n the competition this season for his challenge on Alex Sandro in the 47th minute.

Aurier joined Spurs from Paris Saint-German for £23 million this season and only played 19 matches so far across all competitions.
