
Kolkata, Nov 26: ATK head coach Teddy Sheringham has suggested that their marquee signing Robbie Keane will be available to play within two weeks of time.
The former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur player was roped in this season as the Kolkata based Indian Super League franchise 's marquee signing however, their hope of a rampant start to the season took a hit after he returned home for treatment for a knee injury.
However, the English head coach now has claimed that although the player will not be available against FC Pune City today but could be back in the field in next week.
"We are looking forward to Robbie Keane coming back. He has taken an injection on his Achilles. Things have progressed well and he is on his way back as we speak which will give everyone a big lift," Sheringham said about Keane.
"He is certainly not playing tomorrow. Maybe, with progress (he will play) next week or the week after. I'll keep my fingers crossed for the next couple of weeks."
Sheringham also provided a fitness update on the rest of the squad. The English Premier league winner forward implied that midfielder Shankar Sampingiraj who missed the first match against Kerala Blasters will return to action against Pune but defender Ashutosh Mehta and Anwar Ali will remain sidelined.
“Ashu (Ashutosh) hamstring issue, he is recovering quickly. He will be back soon, Anwar has the same injury. Jayesh (has a) knee injury. It is taking a longer time than what we expected. Shankar has recovered and is back.”
