Robert De Pauw Departs Aston Villa Following Struggles In Women's Super League

Aston Villa has confirmed the departure of head coach Robert de Pauw after just nine Women's Super League matches. The team struggled under his leadership, securing only one win and facing five losses. Shaun Goater will serve as interim manager until a new appointment is made.

Aston Villa have announced the departure of head coach Robert de Pauw from their Women's Super League team after a brief six-month tenure. De Pauw took over in June following Carla Ward's resignation at the end of last season. However, his time with the team has been marked by disappointing results.

The Villans currently sit ninth in the WSL standings, having secured just one victory in their first nine matches. Their recent 4-0 loss to Arsenal was their fifth defeat this season. In that game at the Emirates, Villa managed seven shots but failed to hit the target, while Arsenal converted nine out of 17 attempts.

De Pauw Leaves Aston Villa After Nine Games

Under De Pauw's leadership, Aston Villa have conceded 17 goals, with only Tottenham (22) and Crystal Palace (25) allowing more in the league so far. Offensively, they have also faced challenges, scoring only nine goals this season. Only Crystal Palace (eight), Everton (four), and Leicester City (two) have scored fewer.

Shaun Goater will step in as interim manager until a permanent replacement is found. His first match in charge will be against Charlton Athletic in a Women's League Cup fixture on Wednesday.

The club expressed gratitude towards De Pauw for his dedication during his brief stint and extended best wishes for his future endeavors. The search for a new head coach is underway as Aston Villa aim to improve their performance in upcoming matches.
