Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has been handed a seven-match domestic ban and fined £100,000 by the FA for making a racial remark about teammate Son Heung-min during a Uruguayan TV interview in June. The incident was deemed an "aggravated breach" under FA Rule E3.2, referencing race or nationality.

As the suspension applies only to domestic matches, Bentancur will miss critical Premier League and EFL Cup games. His next domestic appearance will be on Boxing Day (December 26) when Tottenham face Nottingham Forest. Until then, Spurs will have to navigate a challenging schedule without him.

The incident occurred in June when Bentancur appeared on the show Por La Camiseta. Asked for a Spurs player's jersey, he joked, "Sonny's? It could be Sonny's cousin too as they all look the same." The FA later deemed this an "aggravated breach" under Rule E3.2 for referencing nationality, race, or ethnic origin.

The controversy that led to his ban has raised questions about team harmony. Bentancur's remark drew widespread criticism. While Bentancur apologized immediately-both privately and publicly-Son has repeatedly assured that their relationship remains intact.

"We are brothers, and nothing has changed at all," Son said in June. "He apologized straight away, and it felt heartfelt. We're united and focused on fighting for our club."
