Rodrygo Emphasises Team Unity By Hugging Xabi Alonso After Goal Against Manchester City

After scoring against Manchester City, Rodrygo hugged Xabi Alonso to highlight Real Madrid's unity during challenging times. The team faces pressure following recent losses.

Rodrygo expressed his desire to demonstrate Real Madrid's solidarity by embracing Xabi Alonso after scoring against Manchester City in the Champions League. The Brazilian's goal came during a 2-1 defeat at Santiago Bernabeu, marking their second loss in a row. Prior to this match, Madrid had suffered a 2-0 defeat to Celta Vigo in LaLiga, which increased the pressure on Alonso.

Real Madrid has been struggling recently, winning only two of their last eight matches across all competitions. This includes three draws and three losses. Reports have emerged that club executives have convened to discuss Alonso's future with the team. Rodrygo acknowledged the pressure, stating, "We know there's a lot of pressure here. It's normal when things don't go your way on the field."

Rodrygo Shows Unity with Xabi Alonso

Rodrygo elaborated on his decision to hug Alonso after scoring, emphasizing the importance of showing unity within the team during challenging times. He said, "After my goal, I went to hug Xabi to show the team's unity." He stressed that both players and coach are experiencing difficulties and wanted to convey their solidarity.

The current season has seen Madrid lose five league-phase games in the Champions League since last season began. This matches the number of group-stage losses they experienced from 2019-20 to 2023-24 combined. They sit seventh in the league table and risk falling into knockout-round play-offs for a second consecutive season.

In LaLiga, Real Madrid is currently second but trails Barcelona by four points after securing just one victory in their last five league games. This stretch includes two draws and two losses. The team's recent performance has led to dissatisfaction among fans, who jeered them following the loss to Manchester City.

Rodrygo acknowledged fans' frustrations as understandable given Madrid's high expectations. He remarked, "It's normal... It's fair... We know that Madrid is a very demanding club; the fans are very demanding." He emphasized that improvement is necessary for overcoming their current situation.

The need for unity was further highlighted by Rodrygo as he addressed rumours surrounding team dynamics. He stated, "I know a lot of things are always said... I just wanted to say that we were united and that we need this unity to move forward and achieve our goal."

Real Madrid faces significant challenges ahead as they strive for better results both domestically and internationally. Maintaining cohesion within the squad will be crucial as they navigate these pressures.
