He said, "After my goal, I went to hug Xabi to show the team's unity." He stressed that both players and coach are experiencing difficulties and wanted to convey their solidarity.

The current season has seen Madrid lose five league-phase games in the Champions League since last season began. This matches the number of group-stage losses they experienced from 2019-20 to 2023-24 combined. The need for unity was further highlighted by Rodrygo as he addressed rumours surrounding team dynamics. He stated, "I know a lot of things are always said... I just wanted to say that we were united and that we need this unity to move forward and achieve our goal."
