Roma Holds Napoli To A Draw As Angelino Scores Late Equaliser In Serie A Clash

In a thrilling Serie A match, Angelino's late equaliser secured a 1-1 draw for Roma against league leaders Napoli. This result prevents Napoli from extending their lead at the top of the table.

Angelino's late goal denied Napoli the chance to widen their lead in Serie A, as Roma secured a 1-1 draw on Sunday. Napoli aimed to extend their advantage at the top after Inter Milan's earlier draw with AC Milan in the Derby di Milano. However, they couldn't capitalise at Stadio Olimpico, keeping their lead at three points, with Inter having a game in hand.

Leonardo Spinazzola opened the scoring for Napoli against his former club in the 29th minute. He lofted the ball over Mile Svilar following Juan Jesus' forward pass. After halftime, Leandro Paredes nearly equalised for Roma with a free-kick that narrowly missed Alex Meret's goal.

Angelino's Late Goal Earns Roma Draw with Napoli

Napoli appeared set for an eighth consecutive Serie A victory until Angelino struck in stoppage time. Roma advanced down the right flank, and Alexis Saelemaekers delivered a cross to Angelino, who volleyed it into the bottom corner from the penalty area edge. This late goal dashed Napoli's hopes of extending their lead.

Roma has developed a knack for scoring late goals in Serie A. Since 2020-21, they have netted 28 goals from the 90th minute onwards, more than any other team in Italy's top division over the last five seasons. This trend continued against Napoli, frustrating their title ambitions.

Despite not increasing their lead, Napoli has accumulated 54 points from 23 matches this season (17 wins, 3 draws, 3 losses). In the era of three points per win since 1994-95, only during the 2017-18 (60 points) and 2022-23 (62 points) seasons have they performed better after this many games.

The match highlighted both teams' resilience and determination. While Napoli missed an opportunity to pull away further at the top of Serie A, Roma demonstrated their ability to fight until the final whistle.
