Federico Gatti came off the bench to hit a 93rd-minute equaliser, completing Juventus’ comeback for a 3-3 draw against Roma at Stadio Olimpico. The result kept the gap between the top-four rivals at four points, when Juventus had appeared certain to slip seven points behind.
The meeting carried major weight in the Champions League qualification battle, and both teams left with mixed emotions. Roma led twice by two goals and posted a higher expected goals figure, yet Juventus’ impact substitutes altered the mood and turned a likely defeat into a valuable away point.

The turning point arrived in the final stages, after Roma had seemed in control at 3-1. Jeremie Boga first cut the deficit when Zeki Celik failed to clear a cross, allowing Boga to strike. Shortly afterwards, Gatti reacted fastest to Edon Zhegrova’s free-kick, smashing the leveller from close range.
Juventus had needed that late surge because Roma earlier stretched their advantage through Donyell Malen. Malen struck in the 65th minute with a clever dinked finish, adding to the Dutch forward’s strong start at Roma. At that moment, Roma led 3-1 and appeared on course to claim all three points.
Roma’s first blow came six minutes before half-time, when Wesley cut in from the left and curled a precise shot beyond Mattia Perin into the top-right corner. Juventus answered swiftly after the interval, as Francisco Conceicao met a loose ball on the edge of the area and lashed a first-time effort into the roof of the net.
Roma hit back almost at once, restoring the advantage seven minutes later from a rehearsed set-piece. A short corner moved the Juventus defence, and Lorenzo Pellegrini delivered a cross that found Evan Ndicka unmarked. Ndicka volleyed in, giving Roma a 2-1 lead and reinforcing the sense of control.
This 3-3 draw continued a rare high-scoring pattern in Roma versus Juventus clashes at the Olimpico. It was only the fourth Serie A meeting between these clubs there with at least six total goals, following a 3-4 in January 2022, a 3-3 in January 1962 and a 1-5 in November 1946.
Malen’s contribution, though overshadowed late, remained notable. The goal against Juventus was Malen’s sixth strike since joining Roma from Aston Villa. Since Malen’s Serie A debut on January 18, only Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane, with nine goals, had scored more in Europe’s top five leagues.
Underlying metrics also underlined Roma’s frustration. Roma generated an expected goals value of 1.65 from 11 attempts, while Juventus posted 1.39 xG from 13 shots. Roma could argue the performance merited victory, yet defensive lapses in the closing stages allowed Juventus to escape and thrilled neutral observers.
The draw kept both teams firmly in the Champions League chase, while also exposing flaws on each side. Juventus showed depth and resilience through the bench, whereas Roma displayed attacking fluency but vulnerable defending. The match added another dramatic chapter to the Roma versus Juventus Serie A rivalry at the Olimpico.
