Ronaldinho makes a winning return to Brazil

By Biswajeet Panda
Rio de Janiero, Feb 3: Brazil's star footballer Ronaldinho made a winning debut with his new club Flamengo after he led them to a 1-0 victory over Nova Iguacu in a Carioca (Rio) state championship match. He led the team as their new captain.

More than 40,000 Flamengo fans packed the Enganhao stadium on Feb 2, to welcome Ronaldinho on his debut for the club with a mosaic that read "Welcome R10."

The two time FIFA World Player of the Year was playing for a Brazilian club after nearly 10 years. He signed up with Flamengo in Jan 2011 which is seen as a move to rediscover his prime form in Brazil and win a place in the national squad for the 2014 World Cup side.

He won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002 and also played in the 2006 edition but following his indifferent form at Milan, he was dropped from the 2010 tournament in South Africa .

Amid the euphoria over his signing, the Brazilian football ace said, "It's one of the happiest days of my life."
