Cristiano Ronaldo will be celebrated with a special award for being the Champions League's all-time leading goalscorer. This recognition will occur during the Champions League 2024-25 draw in Monaco on Thursday. Over 18 years, Ronaldo scored 140 goals in 183 appearances, surpassing Lionel Messi by 11 goals and Robert Lewandowski by 46.
Ronaldo's first goal came in his fourth season, scoring twice in Manchester United's 7-1 quarter-final win over Roma in April 2007. The next season, he won his first Champions League title with United, scoring eight times, including the only goal in the final against Chelsea.

He later won four more titles with Real Madrid. His most prolific season was during their first title win when he netted a record 17 goals in 11 appearances in the 2013-14 campaign.
The Portuguese forward was also the first to win the competition five times and finished as top-scorer on seven occasions. This includes six consecutive seasons between 2012 and 2018. His final campaign saw him score six times in seven games upon returning to Manchester United.
Ronaldo's remarkable overhead kick against Juventus during an 11-game scoring streak from June 2017 to April 2018 stands out among his many memorable goals.
"Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the brightest stars in the UEFA Champions League constellation," said UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin. "His extraordinary goal-scoring achievements seem destined to stand the test of time, posing a remarkable challenge for future generations to surpass."
Ceferin added that Ronaldo's sustained excellence at the highest level is a testament to his relentless pursuit of both team and individual honours. Over more than two decades, he has continuously evolved and refined his game while preserving a youthful passion for scoring and celebrating goals.
Ronaldo's professionalism, work ethic, dedication, and ability to shine on the grandest stage are qualities that football players everywhere should aspire to emulate. His achievements have set a high bar for future generations.
This special award recognises Ronaldo’s unparalleled contributions to the Champions League. His records include being the all-time top scorer with seven golden boots and holding the record for most goals (17) in a single campaign.
