Ruben Amorim, the new head coach of Manchester United, emphasised the importance of winning matches to establish his identity at the club. The Portuguese manager, who succeeded Erik ten Hag after leaving Sporting CP, shared his thoughts in his first interview with the Premier League team. "We know that we need time, but we have to win time. To win time is to win games," he stated.
Amorim stressed that his primary focus is on developing a distinct identity for the team from the outset. He explained that while game preparation is crucial, understanding their playing style and pressing tactics is vital. "You cannot go 100% on every detail because it will be confusing for the players," he noted. His main goal is to instil this identity from day one.

The former Portugal international acknowledged that having a young squad won't be an excuse for not achieving immediate results. "I don't want to say that we need time because we are a young team. They are prepared," Amorim said. He believes the players are ready to meet United's demands and should embrace their new playing style without hesitation.
Amorim becomes the seventh manager at Manchester United since Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. His debut match will be against Ipswich Town in the league on 24 November. Despite being a long-term project, Amorim remains realistic about expectations for his side's performance at Portman Road.
"I want to say beautiful things to you, but I'm really honest," Amorim remarked about what fans can expect against Ipswich. He assured supporters they would see a clear idea and positioning on the pitch despite limited training sessions before the match. "This is the best league in the world," he added, highlighting the challenge ahead.
Amorim brings experience from his successful tenure at Sporting CP, where he won two league titles and two Taca da Liga trophies as a manager. As a player with Benfica, he also secured three Portuguese league championships. At United, he inherits a team currently placed 13th in the Premier League with 15 points from 11 games and struggling in Europa League with just one win from four matches.
The new coach's commitment to establishing an identity reflects his understanding of both short-term pressures and long-term goals at Manchester United. Fans can expect gradual progress as Amorim works towards building a cohesive team capable of competing at high levels consistently.
