Ruben Amorim is confident he can steer Manchester United back to success. The 39-year-old recently signed a contract lasting two and a half years, keeping him at Old Trafford until June 2027. He replaced Erik ten Hag, who was dismissed in October. Amorim is the sixth permanent manager since Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013, having left Sporting CP during the international break to take on this role.
Amorim's tenure at Sporting CP was marked by significant achievements, including two Primeira Liga titles and two Taca da Liga trophies. Under his leadership, Sporting had an impeccable start to the current season, winning all 11 league matches. Despite Manchester United's current position of 13th in the Premier League with 15 points, they are only four points shy of Chelsea, who sit third.

Recognising the challenges ahead, Amorim remains optimistic about his potential impact at Manchester United. During his inaugural press conference, he stated, "I'm a little bit of a dreamer and I believe in myself, and I believe in the club." He emphasised that sharing similar ideas and mindsets with the club could be beneficial.
"I truly believe in the players; I know you don't believe a lot, but I do," Amorim expressed. "I want to try new things. You guys don't think it's possible; I do. Call me naive, but I believe I am the right guy at the right time."
At just under 40 years old, Amorim will be the youngest manager to lead Manchester United since Wilf McGuinness in August 1969. The team has struggled this season with only four wins out of eleven league games and scoring just twelve goals so far.
Amorim plans to introduce his preferred 3-4-3 formation but acknowledges it will require time for adaptation. He has requested patience as players adjust to his tactical approach. "I know at Manchester United we have to win games," he noted.
The new manager understands that competing for titles in such a challenging league demands significant improvement and changes within the squad's physical dynamics. "We need a lot of time because it's a tough league," Amorim added.
As Manchester United prepares for their upcoming match against Ipswich Town, fans eagerly anticipate how Amorim's strategies will unfold on the pitch.
