Ruben Amorim Addresses Criticism Following Manchester United's Defeat To Newcastle United

After Manchester United's 4-1 loss to Newcastle, manager Ruben Amorim expresses indifference to criticism and shifts focus to the Europa League quarter-finals.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim remains unfazed by criticism after a 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United. This loss marks their 14th in the Premier League this season, equalling their highest number of defeats in a single campaign. Despite Alejandro Garnacho's equaliser, Newcastle dominated the second half with goals from Harvey Barnes and Bruno Guimaraes. United now sit 14th, seven points from the top half.

Amorim is not concerned about negative opinions surrounding him. He told Sky Sports, "I understand [the criticism], but I don't care. Nothing is worse than losing games. People can say whatever they want to say. I don't want to defend myself or anything like that. If you look at our position in the table, it says it all." He acknowledges that losing matches is the toughest aspect of his role.

Amorim Unfazed by Criticism After Defeat

The manager highlighted that numerous errors contributed to their defeat on Sunday, making it challenging to secure a win. "It's a little bit of everything," he stated, emphasising the difficulty in pinpointing a single issue. The team struggled against top-tier opponents like Newcastle, and mistakes only compounded their challenges.

Despite recent setbacks, Amorim is eager to shift focus to Thursday's crucial Europa League quarter-final second leg against Lyon. The tie stands at 2-2 ahead of the match at Old Trafford. Winning this competition could secure Champions League football for next season, offering some redemption for an otherwise tough year.

"All the mistakes we made today, we cannot make on Thursday," Amorim stressed. He acknowledged the importance of this opportunity: "Of course, it's really important. We have a chance to get [in the] Champions League." The team must concentrate on advancing to the next stage and delivering for their fans.

The upcoming game presents a different challenge, and Amorim believes they must perform better to progress further in the competition. Success in Europe could provide a much-needed boost for both players and supporters alike.
