Ruud sure Ferguson will prevail upon Ronaldo to stay with 'Man U'

By Staff

London, Aug 4 : Former Manchester United striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy, who left United for Madrid after falling out with team manager Sir Alex Ferguson, expects Cristiano Ronaldo to stay at 'Man U' for at least another year, and believes that a meeting with Sir Alex Ferguson will finalise it.

Ronaldo returns to Old Trafford amid claims that he will demand a move to Real Madrid. owever, Van Nistelrooy, who left United for Madrid after falling out with Ferguson, he is sure the manager will get his way when he sits down with Ronaldo, reported The Telegraph.

"The meetings can be a bit lively but what he [Ferguson] is doing is in the interests of Manchester United. If he wants to keep the player he'll do everything he can to do so, and he'll probably succeed," the paper quoted Nistelrooy as saying.

Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand expects his United and England team-mate Wayne Rooney to step out of Ronaldo's shadow this season. The 22-year-old was forced to take a supporting role as the winger's 42 goals made him the leading man at Old Trafford last season.

However, Ferdinand said: "What Wayne did last season was staggering, He played out of position a lot, he played on the left and sacrificed himself so many times for the team. I know the manager wants to see Wayne playing in his more accustomed position, just off the front. Maybe that will happen if we sign a striker and then you'll see how dangerous he can be."
