Ryan Giggs claims Jose Mourinho needs to change Pogba's position

London, Feb 8: Former Manchester United legend and newly appointed Wales boss Ryan Giggs has suggested that United star midfielder Paul Pogba can lead his former club to a league title next season, however, the midfielder has to be deployed at left in a three-man midfield.

Mourinho has mostly preferred a two-man midfield with Matic-Pogba pair but Giggs believes in a two-man system the player's attacking sense is being restricted.

Hinting at this season's Everton game, Giggs also suggested that if Mourinho can give the former Juventus midfielder more freedom with less defensive work in a three-man midfield system, his former team has enough attacking reinforcement to clinch the title next season.

Giggs said: "He was on the left of Matic -- in a similar position to the one he played at Juventus -- and Ander Herrera was on the right."

"I think that position where he's on the left of a midfield three is where he's at his best. He's a brilliant crosser of the ball and I don't think he's as effective when he's having to do more defensive work in central areas.

"I would like to see him in a 4-3-3 with Matic sitting, Herrera to the right and Pogba to the left, with a selection of the front three thriving off more creativity behind them."

"They've got pace, guile, goals, experience and make up a really top forward line.

"I would say the forward line is as good as Manchester City's, but the difference is the way of playing, with Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva behind consistently finding the front three for City.

"United have Paul Pogba who could potentially be as good as them, but then Nemanja Matic is more defensive, so it is just that creative area where City have got the upper hand."

The Frenchman landed at Old Trafford for a world record fee of £89million last year after having enjoyed a fruitful career at Juventus where he won four successive Serie A titles and was named in the FIFA World XI twice.

Since his move to United, he also established himself as an indispensable part of Manchester United's last season's glory as helped his team to three titles, Community Shield, the League Cup and Europa League respectively.

Pogba also scored the opening goal against Ajax in Stockholm in the final and took his team into the final round of Champions League football.

The 24-year-old in this season has also been one of Mourinho's star players as United currently sit second in the Premier League, 13 points behind leaders Manchester City. Having played 16 matches so far in the Premier League, he has managed to register three goals and nine assists.
