Salah Eager To Make The Most Of His 'Last Year' At Liverpool

Mohamed Salah expresses his intention to fully enjoy what might be his last season with Liverpool, after a notable performance in their victory over Manchester United. With his contract ending soon, Salah's future remains uncertain.

Mohamed Salah expressed his desire to savour what might be his final season at Liverpool after contributing significantly to their 3-0 win over Manchester United. Salah assisted Luis Diaz's opening goal and scored the second, marking his 10th goal in seven appearances at Old Trafford. This performance helped Arne Slot's team secure their third consecutive Premier League victory.

The Egyptian forward has become the first player to score in five consecutive away matches against United in the Premier League. Despite this achievement, Salah's future at Anfield remains uncertain as he enters the last year of his current contract. He aims to cherish every moment of his eighth season with Liverpool.

Salah's Final Year Focus

"A great result. Everyone knows the derby is important for the fans and the city," Salah told Sky Sports. "We need to carry on and, if you want to fight for the league, you have to win each game." He added that he had a good summer, reflecting positively during his time off. "This is my last year with the club and I want to enjoy it. I feel I am free to play football."

Salah also mentioned that no discussions about contract extensions have taken place yet. "Nobody in the club has talked to me about contracts. It is not up to me; it is up to the club," he stated, leaving his future open-ended.

Meanwhile, Arne Slot praised his players for their performance, becoming only the third manager to win his first three Premier League games without conceding a goal. He follows in the footsteps of Sven-Goran Eriksson (2007) and Jose Mourinho (2004). Slot acknowledged United's aggressive start but commended his team for overcoming those early challenges.

"The first few minutes, United started aggressive, and we had to fight our way through the period," Slot said. "If you go to Old Trafford, we know there will be tough moments." He highlighted how they continued playing well even after Trent Alexander-Arnold's disallowed goal.

High Press Strategy

Salah noted that their manager encourages a high pressing game, which led to capitalising on United's mistakes. "The manager likes us to press high and there were a couple of mistakes, and we managed to punish them - it was part of the plan," he explained.

Slot also pointed out that their forwards' aggressive tracking back was crucial for winning such games. "Today, we showed a lot of moments where the forwards tracked back so aggressively, and that is what we need if you want to win these games," he said.

The victory at Old Trafford underscores Liverpool's strong start under Slot's management and highlights Salah's pivotal role despite uncertainties about his future with the club.
