Mohamed Salah has shown notable improvement under Arne Slot's leadership at Liverpool, according to former goalkeeper David James. The team has secured four victories in their first five Premier League matches, trailing Manchester City by just one point. Their only setback was a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest. Impressively, Liverpool has kept four clean sheets, matching their best start in previous seasons.
Salah's contributions have been significant, with three goals and four assists so far this season. Only Erling Haaland surpasses him in goal contributions with ten. Salah is also joint-sixth in the league for chances created and expected assists. James believes Salah's overall performance has improved under Slot's guidance, despite not scoring as many goals as Haaland.

James highlighted that Salah's gameplay, including his control and passing decisions, has reached his usual high standards. "If you look at Mo Salah, Mo Salah's improved," said James. "He hasn't scored a massive amount of goals compared to the likes of Erling Haaland in particular, but his gameplay, his control, his pass choices, his effectiveness, his scoring, his assists are up there with his normal standard."
Slot's patient build-up play style has benefited both Salah and Luis Diaz by providing them more space to exploit defenders. James noted that this approach allows wingers to excel when isolating their markers. He stated that improvements in touch and ball retention enhance the team's overall performance.
James praised Slot for effectively transforming the playing style without major squad changes. He mentioned Ryan Gravenberch as an example of a player who seems rejuvenated under Slot’s management. "I mean, [Ryan] Gravenberch, he's like a new signing," James remarked.
Liverpool faces Wolves next in the Premier League. Wolves have struggled against Liverpool historically, suffering more defeats against them than any other club in the competition.
The changes implemented by Slot have positively impacted key players like Salah and Diaz. Their enhanced performances contribute significantly to Liverpool’s strong start this season.
