Salary Unrest at Mohammedan SC: Players Protest Leads to Delayed Training of Chennaiyin FC Clash

Mohammedan SC's preparations for their crucial ISL clash against Chennaiyin FC on Wednesday were marred by a player protest over unpaid salaries. Reportedly, the players refused to start their scheduled training session at the Yuva Bharati practice ground on Tuesday afternoon.

As per multiple reports, they were citing two months of unpaid wages. The team, buoyed by their recent 1-0 victory over Bengaluru FC, was expected to carry the momentum into their home fixture. However, financial instability within the club caused unrest among the players.

Arriving at the ground on time, the squad refused to take the field, leaving only the support staff and coach Andrey Chernyshov present. Mohammedan's CEO, Rajat Mishra, quickly intervened, holding an hour-long meeting with the disgruntled players.

Following assurances that their dues would be cleared soon, the players eventually resumed training, albeit an hour later than scheduled. When asked about the situation, Mishra downplayed the issue, stating, "There is no problem in our team."

However, sources indicate that financial difficulties within the club's investment company have led to recurring salary delays, fueling discontent among the players. The disruption comes at a pivotal time for Mohammedan SC. The team has shown signs of recovery after enduring five consecutive defeats earlier in the season.

A hard-fought win against Bengaluru FC, preceded by two draws, has raised hopes for a turnaround. Speaking about the upcoming match, head coach Andrey Chernyshov emphasized the importance of maintaining focus. "Every point is crucial. We've gained confidence from the win against Bengaluru, but this is a new challenge," he said.

He added, "Chennaiyin FC are a dynamic side with an experienced coach. We need to be prepared for a tough game." Despite the off-field turmoil, the Mohammedan camp remains optimistic about extending their unbeaten streak.

Key players like Samad, who recently returned from injury, and Joseph are expected to bolster the team's efforts. Chernyshov also called on fans to remain patient, saying, "We are working hard to make our supporters proud. The players are regaining confidence, and we want to secure another win at home."
