Sam Allardyce turned down chance to sign Romelu Lukaku for just £10m

Sullivan disclosed that the 24-year-old was available for just £10 million and Chelsea offered the player to the London club for a permanent deal but Allardyce rejected the chance.

Romelu Lukaku

Bengaluru, December 10: West Ham United co-owner David Sullivan has sensationally revealed his club turned down the chance to sign Romelu Lukaku for just £10million.

The Belgium forward moved to Old Trafford in the last Summer for £75 million having established himself as one of Premier League's hotshot striker during spells at West Brom and Everton.

Lukaku initially played in both the clubs on loan from the Stamford Bridge but made the deal permanent with Everton in 2014.

However, according to chairman Sullivan, his future could have worked out differently had then Hammers boss Allardyce chosen to stump up the money when the striker was available.

Sullivan disclosed that the 24-year-old was available for just £10 million and Chelsea offered the player to the London club for a permanent transfer but Allardyce decided not to spend that money on him and that gave the opportunity to Everton who took him on loan initially to sign him on permanent a year later.

Hammers co-owner Sullivan told The Guardian: "I asked Sam if he fancied Lukaku.

“Sam said he'd take him on loan but he wouldn't buy him for that. Again I've supported the manager."

Lukaku has made a fine start to his United campaign and has already scored 13 goals and helped in further four in 23 matches in all competitions.

He is expected to be seen in United jersey again this weekend in the high voltage match against Manchester City and the Belgian attacker will be looking to add to his tally again against the bitter rivals to continue his domination in the scoring chart.
